Root Canals

Root Canals

When a tooth has been injured in an accident or suffered a deep or painful cavity, all is not lost. In many cases, we can save a tooth like this with a root canal.

The name of this procedure refers to the fact that every tooth root has a canal which contains nerves and blood supply for that tooth. When bacteria invades the canals because of a deep cavity or impact injury, the soft tissue within the canals is no longer healthy. The tissue must be cleaned out and replaced with sterile material to preserve the tooth and its function. We then recommend placing a crown over this tooth to strengthen it.
